Electric dirt bikes don't need oil changes, air filters or carb cleaning, but they aren't maintenance-free. Whether you ride an E-Ride Pro, a Sur-Ron Ultra Bee or a Talaria Sting R MX4, the same things wear out: chain and sprockets, brake pads, tires, bearings, suspension seals and connectors. This is the routine we use to keep bikes reliable, sorted by how often you should do each job.
Before every ride (2 minutes)
- Tires: Check pressure with a gauge (not by squeezing) and set it to your manual's recommendation. Look for cuts and missing knobs.
- Brakes: Both levers should feel firm, not spongy, and the bike shouldn't roll when you hold them.
- Chain: Check that it's lubed and the slack looks right.
- Controls: The throttle should snap back closed on its own. Test the kill switch and lights.
- Battery: It should be latched, seated and charged.
Weekly, or every few rides
Chain and sprockets
Clean and lube the chain, especially after wet or dusty rides. Check the slack against your manual's spec — a chain that's too tight or too loose wears sprockets fast. Hooked or pointed sprocket teeth mean it's time to replace the chain and sprockets together. Supplies: Maxima Clean Up, Maxima Chain Pro Dry Lube (dry conditions) or Wet Formula (wet conditions), and a chain brush. Replacement parts are in sprockets and chains.
Brakes
Check pad thickness through the caliper. Squealing, grinding or a lever that pulls closer to the bar each ride all need attention. Hydraulic brakes need fresh fluid periodically; use the fluid type printed on the reservoir cap (DOT or mineral oil, never mixed). Parts: brake pads, brakes.
Bolts
Off-road vibration loosens things. Go over the axle nuts, handlebar clamps, sprocket bolts, motor mounts, the shock and linkage bolts, and the battery-bay hardware. Use the torque specs in your manual.
Monthly
Suspension
Wipe the fork tubes after every ride, and look for oil on the tubes, which means the seals are leaking. A Seal Mate often fixes a weeping seal caused by trapped grit. Set your sag and preload for your weight. Upgrades and service parts are in suspension.
Bearings and pivots
Grab the wheel and rock it side to side, and check the swingarm for play. Grease the pivots with a waterproof grease like Maxima Hi-Temp Waterproof Grease if you ride wet.
Electrical
Check the battery connector, the controller plugs and the throttle connector for corrosion or burnt pins. Dielectric grease on connector seals helps keep water out. If your bike has a primary belt (the Sur-Ron Light Bee X, for example), check it for wear and correct tension.
Battery habits
- Use the charger made for your bike, and charge indoors.
- Don't routinely run the pack completely flat.
- Let a hot or cold battery come back to room temperature before charging, and never charge below freezing.
- For storage, follow your manual's charge level. Sur-Ron's Ultra Bee manual, for example, calls for 60–80% charge in 10–30°C (50–86°F), checked monthly.
Washing
Use a low-pressure hose or a bucket and brush with a cleaner like Muc-Off. Keep a pressure washer away from the battery, controller, connectors and bearings. Dry the bike, then re-lube the chain.
When to replace instead of clean
- A chain that's stiff, rusty or stretched past adjustment, or sprockets with hooked teeth
- Brake pads worn to the wear line, or rotors that are scored or warped
- Tires with rounded knobs or cracked sidewalls
- A battery that's lost noticeable range, shuts off under load or shows any swelling. Stop using a damaged pack and contact us or the manufacturer.

FAQ
How often should I lube the chain? Every few rides, and after every wet or muddy ride.
Can I pressure wash my electric dirt bike? Not around the battery, controller, connectors or bearings. A low-pressure rinse is the safe way.
What are the signs of a failing battery? Noticeably shorter range, shutoffs under load at a high indicated charge, a pack that won't fully charge, or any swelling.
