The Talaria Sting R MX4 is a tough little bike, but a few stock parts break or bend once you ride it hard off-road. These are the protection upgrades we'd do first on a Sting R MX4, starting with the parts we see fail most. Everything linked below lists the MX4 in its fitment.
Rear Suspension Triangle and Linkage
This is the big one on the Sting R. The stock cast-aluminum triangle can crack from hard landings and repeated hits. On the Sting R, the geometry can also let the rear tire hit the seat on big compressions.
- Heavy Hitter Reinforced Suspension Triangle: billet replacement and a must-do for Sting R owners.
- TB Talaria Sting Upgraded Linkage Triangle: CNC aluminum with the same geometry as stock, but much stronger.
- Talaria Sting OEM Linkage: the MX3-style OEM linkage, a common fix for MX4 owners.
Skid Plate
The motor sits at the bottom of the frame, right where rocks, roots and logs hit it. The GritShift Heavy Hitter Talaria Skid Plate V2 has 7075 billet side rails and replaceable bash plates. It fits the MX3, MX4 and MX5. If you just need to replace a damaged stock guard, there's the OEM Talaria Sting bash guard.
Foot Peg Brackets
The stock peg brackets bend inward when you stand on them hard, and pegs can snap off in a tip-over. A brace between the brackets fixes it:
- DirtyBike Foot Peg Support Brace (check V1 vs V2 bracket on the product page)
- GritShift Footpeg Support Brace (V2 frames only)
- KyVex Billet Peg Bracket & Brace replaces the whole bracket.
While you're there, wider pegs like the Warp 9 Upgraded Foot Pegs give you better grip and control.
Brake Rotor Guard
The thin rear rotor is easy to bend on rocks and stumps. The Warp 9 220mm Rear Brake Rotor Guard covers both the stock rotor and 220 mm upgrades.
Hand Guards
A tip-over usually means a broken lever. The Warp 9 E-Moto Hand Guards use an aluminum mount and a tough HDPE shield, and they fit the Sting MX3/MX4/MX5.
Gearbox, Chain and Display
- Warp 9 Talaria Sting Upgraded Gearcase Vent: keeps water and mud out of the gear oil, and keeps oil in when the bike is on its side.
- TB Talaria Sting Upgraded Chain Guard: aluminum instead of the stock plastic.
- DirtyBike Shock Protector Mud Guard: keeps roost off the rear shock.
- TB Talaria Sting Display Protector fits the standard Sting R MX4 display (not the larger international display).
Basic Maintenance That Prevents Damage
- Check linkage and swingarm bolts after the first few rides and after any big crash.
- Change the gearbox oil on schedule. Motorex Hypoid Gear Oil is made for the Sting gearbox.
- Check brake pads, chain tension and spoke tension regularly.
- Store the battery partially charged, not full or empty, if the bike will sit for a while.
