Level Up Your MX4: The Must-Have Performance Upgrades

The Talaria Sting R MX4 is a fun bike out of the box: 8 kW peak, a 60V 45Ah pack, 19" wheels front and rear, and roughly 145 lb. But ride one hard for a few weekends and you'll find the weak spots fast: the rear suspension, the cockpit, the brakes and the tires. Here's the order we'd tackle them in, and the parts we actually run.

1. Cockpit first: bars, pegs and grips

These are cheap, quick, and you feel them on every ride. The stock bars sit low for taller riders and the stock pegs are narrow with little grip.

If you'd rather not piece it together, the Talaria Sting MX3/MX4 Must Do First Upgrades, Tier 1 bundle covers bars, pegs and grips in one order.

2. Fix the rear suspension linkage

This is the big one on the Sting R. The stock linkage and triangle are the parts riders complain about most, and upgrading them changes how the rear end sits and works under load.

Browse everything else in Suspension.

3. Tires

Tires are the cheapest way to get more grip, braking and cornering. The Tusk Ground Wire E-Motorcycle Tire fits the stock 19" Sting R wheels and is built around how e-motos put power down. If you ride street more than dirt, the 17in Premium Super Moto Wheel Set for Talaria Sting MX4 / XXX turns it into a supermoto.

4. Brakes

Once you add grip and confidence, you'll want more stopping power. Two routes that bolt to the Sting R:

5. Gearing

Changing the rear sprocket is the simplest way to change how the bike pulls. A bigger rear sprocket gives harder acceleration and a lower top speed; a smaller one does the opposite. On a stock-power Sting R we like a 48-tooth rear with a matching chain. That's part of the Talaria Sting MX4/R Recommended Upgrades, Tier 2 bundle, which also adds a heavy-duty stem, stem lock and a GritShift Blinder LED headlight. Shop individual parts in Sprockets and Chains.

6. More power (when the chassis is ready)

Do power last. More speed on a stock chassis just finds the weak spots faster. When you're ready:

A big controller and motor will pull harder than the stock battery is designed to deliver, so talk to us about your whole setup before you buy. See the full Power – Controllers, Batteries, Motors collection.

7. Protection and titanium hardware

Skid plates and guards save you from expensive repairs. Check Protection. If you want to shed weight and stop stripping bolts, the Warp 9 Full Titanium Talaria Sting MX4/R Chassis Bolt Kit replaces the soft stock hardware.

Tips before you start

  • Know your goal. Trail, track or street? Buy for how you actually ride.
  • Control before power. Cockpit, suspension, tires and brakes first.
  • Check fitment. Sting R/MX4, MX3 and MX5 parts don't always cross over. Read the fitment on each product page or ask us.

FAQs

What's the first upgrade for a Talaria Sting R MX4?

Bars, pegs and grips, then the rear linkage. They make the biggest difference for the money.

Will upgrades affect my warranty?

Motor, controller and battery changes can affect warranty coverage. Check with your dealer before you install major electrical upgrades.

Can I install these myself?

Bars, pegs, grips, tires and sprockets are easy DIY jobs. Linkage, brakes and controller/motor swaps take more tools and know-how.
